Planning guide for the September 2027 intake

China Scholarships 2027: A Complete Guide for Bangladeshi Students

Explore CSC Type A and Type B, provincial and university scholarships, funding, eligibility, CSCA examinations, application documents, and the steps to prepare for September 2027.

China offers several scholarship routes for international students pursuing undergraduate degrees, postgraduate research, and Chinese-language study. For Bangladeshi applicants, these opportunities can substantially reduce the cost of studying abroad, with some awards covering tuition, accommodation, medical insurance, and a monthly living allowance.

A successful application requires careful planning. Students must choose a suitable programme, understand the funding conditions, prepare convincing documents, and complete the correct application procedures before the deadline.

For the September 2027 intake, preparation should begin well before the academic year starts. University selection, supervisor contact, language examinations, document certification, and undergraduate entrance assessments can take several months.

Requirements vary by scholarship, university, programme, and country-specific application route. Use this guide for planning, then follow the current official announcement for your chosen award.

1. The Main Scholarship Routes in China

Chinese scholarships are not limited to the China Scholarship Council. Applicants should compare several funding options before deciding where to apply.

CSC Type A: The Government or Embassy Route

The China Scholarship Council, commonly known as CSC, administers Chinese Government Scholarships.

Type A generally covers applications handled through a designated receiving authority, such as a Chinese embassy or a government department in the applicant’s home country.

Bangladeshi students should monitor announcements from the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh and the relevant Bangladeshi authorities. Depending on the call, applicants may need to complete the CSC application alongside additional government or university procedures.

The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh’s previous Type A announcement included bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and one-year Chinese-language programmes. Applicants should check the new intake’s notice for available categories and deadlines.

Before applying, establish:

  • Which authority receives the application.
  • Which online systems must be used.
  • Whether university admission evidence is required.
  • Whether there is a nomination or interview stage.
  • Which agency number and deadline apply.

Submitting a CSC form alone may not complete every required step.

CSC Type B: The University Route

Type B applications are handled through participating Chinese universities. The university evaluates candidates and recommends selected applicants to CSC for further consideration.

Applicants commonly use both the university’s admission system and the CSC system. However, the order is university-specific.

Some institutions require a university application and assessment before shortlisted candidates complete the CSC stage. Jilin University’s published procedure follows this sequence, demonstrating why applicants should use the institution’s own instructions.

For postgraduate applicants, choosing a suitable department and research area is particularly important. Where supervisor acceptance is required or encouraged, contact academics whose work closely matches your proposed research.

Provincial and Municipal Government Scholarships

Provincial and municipal governments also support international students. Examples include scholarships associated with Beijing, Shanghai, and the Jasmine scholarship programme.

Coverage differs between awards. Some provide tuition support, while others include accommodation, insurance, or living allowances.

Shanghai University, for example, lists full and partial Shanghai Government Scholarship categories with different benefits. Applicants should compare the actual funding package rather than assume that every local government scholarship provides the same support.

Some local awards support new applicants before enrolment; others may be available to students already studying. Check eligibility and timing individually.

University Scholarships

Chinese universities may offer their own scholarships independently of CSC.

These can include partial tuition reductions, full tuition waivers, or broader support. An award described simply as a “scholarship” does not necessarily cover accommodation and living expenses.

Before accepting an offer, confirm:

  • The amount or percentage of tuition covered.
  • Whether accommodation is included.
  • Whether a monthly allowance is provided.
  • Whether medical insurance is covered.
  • The funding duration and renewal conditions.

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

Students interested in Chinese language and language education can explore the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, also widely associated with the former Confucius Institute Scholarship name.

This is a separate scheme with its own degree and non-degree categories. Requirements may include HSK or HSKK results, a recommendation from an eligible institution, and an interest in Chinese-language education.

It should not be treated as an unrestricted scholarship for every beginner wishing to learn Chinese.

CAS-ANSO Scholarships

The CAS-ANSO scholarship is another postgraduate opportunity associated with the University of Science and Technology of China, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Chinese Academy of Sciences institutes.

It has separate eligibility conditions and application arrangements. Research it independently rather than assume CSC procedures apply.

Can Students Receive Two Scholarships Together?

Applying for several opportunities and receiving overlapping funding are different matters.

Scholarship conditions may prohibit simultaneous support from other Chinese government or university awards. Jilin University’s CSC regulations, for example, restrict overlapping scholarships while identifying an exception for certain one-off awards.

Disclose other funding and obtain confirmation before accepting a second award.

2. What Does a Full CSC Scholarship Cover?

A full CSC scholarship generally combines tuition support, accommodation, a monthly stipend, and medical insurance.

Tuition Fees

Tuition is covered for the approved scholarship study period. Check the award’s duration and continuation requirements, particularly if the programme includes preparatory language study.

Accommodation

The scholarship may provide university accommodation or an approved accommodation subsidy.

Room arrangements depend on the university. Shared rooms are common, but applicants should confirm the available accommodation rather than expect a particular room type.

Where approved off-campus accommodation is permitted, published arrangements can include:

Study levelMonthly accommodation subsidy
Master’sRMB 700
PhDRMB 1,000

These amounts appear in Shanghai University’s scholarship information. A housing subsidy is subject to the applicable rules and university approval; it is not automatically payable whenever a student chooses to rent privately.

Monthly Living Allowance

The standard monthly stipends are:

Study levelMonthly stipend
Bachelor’sRMB 2,500
Master’sRMB 3,000
PhDRMB 3,500

For budgeting in Bangladeshi taka, use the current exchange rate. The amount available for everyday spending will also depend on the city and personal expenses.

Medical Insurance

Full CSC funding includes comprehensive medical insurance. The published annual standard is RMB 800 per person. This represents insurance coverage, not an additional cash allowance.

Airfare

Airfare depends on the scholarship arrangement.

The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh’s previous Type A announcement explicitly included international round-trip airfare. Applicants should verify whether this benefit continues in the relevant 2027 call.

Type B applicants should budget for their own travel unless their official award expressly includes it.

Initial Expenses and Stipend Payments

Do not assume that scholarship money will be available immediately after arrival.

University registration, banking arrangements, and other administrative procedures can affect the first payment. Keep enough money for the first weeks and allow for a possible delay of one or two months.

Ask the university when the stipend starts, how it is paid, and which initial expenses students must cover themselves.

3. Eligibility: Qualifications, Age, Health, and Language

Educational Qualifications and Age Limits

General CSC degree eligibility follows these categories:

Intended programmePrevious qualificationGeneral age requirement
Bachelor’sHigh-school qualification or recognised equivalentUnder 25
Master’sBachelor’s degree or recognised equivalentUnder 35
PhDMaster’s degree or recognised equivalentUnder 40

The word “under” matters. Do not assume that being exactly 25, 35, or 40 satisfies the requirement. Check the current call’s age calculation and reference date.

Official source: Chinese Government Scholarship eligibility guide

Diploma holders should ask whether their qualification is recognised as meeting the intended programme’s entry requirement. Eligibility depends on qualification equivalence, not simply the document’s title.

Chinese-Language Scholarship Eligibility

Chinese-language scholarships follow their own conditions.

For example, the 2026 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship guide generally specifies ages 16–35, with exceptions for serving Chinese-language teachers and different conditions for undergraduate awards. Check the relevant 2027 category when its guidance is available.

Health Requirements

Applicants must meet the relevant physical and mental health conditions.

Where required, submit the prescribed Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed with the necessary medical findings, signatures, stamps, and supporting records.

English-Taught Programmes

Universities may accept IELTS, TOEFL, another approved examination, or a medium-of-instruction certificate.

Acceptance varies. Duolingo or a certificate showing that previous studies were conducted in English should only be used where explicitly permitted.

Check:

  • Accepted tests and certificates.
  • Minimum scores.
  • Certificate validity.
  • Exemption conditions.
  • Any additional programme requirements.

Chinese-Taught Programmes

There is no single HSK requirement covering every programme.

Some universities require HSK 4, while others require HSK 5 or 6, depending on the degree and subject. Scholarship-level conditions and university admission requirements may differ.

An official 2027/28 embassy notice specifies HSK 4 for Chinese-taught master’s and doctoral applications while also requiring applicants to meet their chosen university’s conditions.

Academic Performance

Strong results improve competitiveness, but applicants should not rely on one universal grade threshold.

Universities may assess previous marks, subject relevance, language proficiency, research potential, interviews, and other evidence. Some publish minimum academic averages.

Meeting the minimum requirements allows an application to be considered; it does not guarantee admission or funding.

4. CSCA: The Undergraduate Assessment Applicants Must Plan For

The China Scholastic Competency Assessment, or CSCA, evaluates the academic readiness of international applicants seeking undergraduate study in China.

Applicants should distinguish the assessment from CSC, the organisation administering Chinese Government Scholarships.

Undergraduate applicants must check the CSCA requirements for their university and scholarship route. The undergraduate assessment requirement discussed here does not apply to master’s and PhD applications.

CSCA Subjects

The assessment offers four subject areas:

  • Professional Chinese.
  • Mathematics.
  • Physics.
  • Chemistry.

Applicants do not necessarily take all four. Requirements depend on the major, teaching language, and university.

Mathematics is compulsory in the university guidance reviewed. Chinese-taught programmes may require the relevant professional Chinese paper, while physics and chemistry requirements vary by field.

For example, Northwestern Polytechnical University’s 2027 guidance specifies mathematics and physics for English-taught computer science, and mathematics and chemistry for biotechnology. Medical applicants should check their own university’s requirements rather than assume the same combination applies everywhere.

Published CSCA Examination Schedule

The University of Science and Technology Beijing’s notice dated October 28, 2026 lists these examination and registration dates:

Examination datesRegistration period

Choose a sitting that allows your results to arrive before your application’s score-submission deadline. A later examination date does not mean that your scholarship application will remain open until then.

5. A Practical Timeline for September 2027

October–November 2026: Research and Prepare

Decide on your intended degree, subject, teaching language, scholarship route, and university shortlist.

Read each institution’s current admission notice. Begin collecting academic records, arranging translations and notarisation, preparing language evidence, and drafting your study plan.

Postgraduate applicants should identify suitable supervisors and contact them where required or encouraged. Explain your academic background, proposed interests, and connection to their research.

Supervisor acceptance can provide useful evidence of academic fit, but it does not create a guaranteed probability of winning a scholarship.

December 2026 Onward: Complete Assessments and Applications

Undergraduate applicants should complete CSCA early enough for their selected route.

Submit applications when the relevant systems open and your documents are ready. December to April can be a useful broad planning window, but individual deadlines may fall earlier or later.

Some universities assess applicants in batches. NPU’s 2027 guidance publishes several application rounds and warns that programmes can close when capacity is reached.

During Assessment: Monitor Your Accounts

Check email and application portals regularly for interviews, document requests, preliminary decisions, and final results.

Results may be released in different rounds, with some decisions appearing earlier in the year and others extending into summer. Use the timeline published by your receiving authority and university.

Understand the difference between:

  • Supervisor acceptance.
  • University pre-admission.
  • University nomination for a scholarship.
  • Final admission and scholarship confirmation.

These stages are not interchangeable.

July–August 2027: Arrange Visa and Travel

Once the required admission and study-visa documents have been issued, follow the current visa instructions applicable in Bangladesh.

Confirm accommodation, prepare an arrival budget, and arrange travel after obtaining the necessary approvals.

September 2027: Complete Registration

Arrive within the registration period specified by the university.

Your admission notice determines when you must report. Contact the institution immediately if circumstances threaten your arrival date.

6. Required Application Documents

The exact checklist depends on the programme and funding route, but applicants should prepare the following categories.

Passport

Provide a clear copy of the passport information page.

Check the institution’s required expiry date and the visa authority’s conditions. Renew early if necessary rather than assume that six months’ remaining validity will satisfy every stage.

Latest Degree Certificate

Submit the qualification required for entry:

  • High-school or recognised equivalent qualification for bachelor’s study.
  • Bachelor’s qualification for master’s study.
  • Master’s qualification for doctoral study.

Follow the instructions for notarised copies, translations, and any permitted provisional graduation evidence.

Academic Transcripts

Include complete, readable records of subjects and grades.

Check that names, dates, qualification details, and other information match the rest of the application.

Study Plan or Research Proposal

A study plan should explain your academic background, reasons for choosing the subject and university, intended study goals, and future plans.

An undergraduate draft of approximately 500–1,000 words may provide useful working space, but the university’s prescribed length and format take priority.

Research-oriented postgraduate programmes may require a proposal setting out the topic, objectives, relevance, and intended approach.

Avoid generic documents that could belong to almost any applicant.

Recommendation Letters

Postgraduate applicants commonly need two academic recommendation letters.

Check the required referee rank. Where professors or associate professors are specified, a letter from a different rank may not satisfy the requirement.

Choose referees who know your work and can discuss specific academic strengths, achievements, and research potential. Ask early and provide information that helps them write an informed recommendation.

Language Evidence

Submit the exact certificate or exemption evidence accepted by the programme.

Check validity and score requirements. A medium-of-instruction certificate only replaces a language examination where the university permits it.

Foreigner Physical Examination Form

Use the required form and complete every section.

Check signatures, hospital stamps, photograph authentication, and supporting results. Schedule the examination so that the documents remain valid when needed.

CSCA Score Report

Undergraduate applicants should submit valid scores for the required subjects.

Check whether results must accompany the initial application or can be supplied later under an explicitly permitted procedure.

Pre-Admission or Supervisor Acceptance Evidence

Do not assume that pre-admission evidence is always optional.

Some routes require it. The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives’ 2027/28 notice, for example, requires an admission or intention-to-admit document from a preferred university. This illustrates variation between application routes; it is not a Bangladesh-specific instruction.

Police Clearance Certificate

Prepare the required non-criminal record or police clearance document from the competent authority.

Check the accepted format, validity period, and any translation or certification requirements.

7. Seven Mistakes That Can Undermine Your Application

1. Submitting a Copied or Generic Study Plan

A document copied from the internet or generated without meaningful personal input provides little evidence of your suitability.

Explain your own academic preparation, interests, choices, and goals. If you use writing tools, verify every claim and ensure the final document accurately represents you.

2. Providing Weak or Unsuitable Recommendations

A recommendation can be ineffective if the referee does not meet the required rank, barely knows your work, or provides only general praise.

Select suitable academic referees and give them enough time to prepare specific, credible letters.

3. Applying at the Last Minute

Late preparation leaves little time to correct documents, resolve technical issues, or obtain supervisor responses.

Earlier review rounds may also fill available places. Aim to submit a complete, strong application early enough to address problems.

4. Entering the Wrong Agency Number

The CSC agency number identifies the relevant receiving authority or university.

Copy it from the current official announcement and confirm that it matches your scholarship category and intended destination.

5. Uploading Unclear or Improperly Certified Documents

Blurred scans, cropped pages, unreadable stamps, missing translations, and absent notarisation can undermine an otherwise suitable application.

Inspect every uploaded file. Where certification is required, upload the correctly certified version rather than an uncertified original.

6. Missing the CSCA Requirement

An undergraduate application may fail because the score report is missing, late, or does not include the required subjects.

Plan the examination alongside your university and scholarship deadlines.

7. Believing a “100% Guaranteed Scholarship” Promise

No agent should present supervisor interest, pre-admission, or a university recommendation as an unconditional final CSC award.

A consultancy may help organise documents or support communication, but it does not control every assessment stage.

Evaluate services carefully, understand what you are paying for, and rely on official admission and scholarship documents when assessing an offer.

8. Your Final Application Checklist

Before submitting, confirm that:

  • Your age and qualification meet the current requirements.
  • Your chosen programme and teaching language match your application.
  • You have selected the correct scholarship category and agency number.
  • You have completed every required application system.
  • Your study plan and research proposal are personal, accurate, and correctly formatted.
  • Your recommendation letters meet the referee requirements.
  • Your language evidence is accepted and valid.
  • Your academic documents are complete, readable, and certified where required.
  • Your medical and police documents remain valid.
  • Your undergraduate CSCA report includes the required subjects.
  • You have obtained any mandatory pre-admission evidence.
  • You understand the scholarship’s coverage and remaining personal expenses.
  • You have submitted before the deadline and retained confirmation.

Keep copies of the application, uploaded documents, payment receipts where applicable, and official correspondence. Continue checking your email and application accounts until the final decision and registration process are complete.

Official Information to Monitor

For current announcements and application instructions, consult:

Use your chosen university’s official international admissions website for programme availability, language requirements, supervisor arrangements, document formats, and deadlines.

Information reviewed on October 28, 2026. Previous-intake notices are identified as examples; their deadlines should not be reused for 2027 applications. Examination arrangements, benefits, and admission requirements remain subject to official updates.
