Core Curriculum
- 1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary-type passport and in good health both mentally and physically.
- Note: According to Nationality Law and the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, applicants who have international nationality at birth, one or both parents is Chinese citizen and are applying to Shanghai University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents attained before April 30, 2022 and proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality, along with proof of residence abroad of at least 2 years between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026 (9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year).
- Residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to Shanghai University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents attained before April 30, 2022 and proof of their renunciation of Chinese nationality, along with proof of residence abroad of at least 2 years between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026 (9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year).
- Relevant applicants are required to provide supporting documents such as birth certificates, entry and exit seals records, certificate of renunciation and Commitment Letter for Entry Exit Information. Those who fail to pass the nationality status review will automatically lose the eligibility to apply and any subsequent admission results they may obtain.
- 2. Chinese language proficiency
- HSK Exemptions
- The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the HSK:
- Native speaker of Chinese.
- The previous degree is fully taught in Chinese. The language statement must be on official headed paper, and must be the original document.
- 3. Academic Requirement
- 3.1 Be an academically excellent holder of high school diploma or its equivalent with GPA 3.0 or above (Note: 4-Point GPA System).
- Graduates-to-be who have not yet obtained their graduation certificate at the time of application are required to provide pre-graduation certificate issued by school or college and Commitment Letter to demonstrate that the applicant has the ability to graduate successfully and obtain the certificate before July 31, 2026.
- 3.2 For Science and Engineering programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics and physics in high school. Some programs also require computer programming courses record.
- For Economics and Management programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics in high school.
- For Arts programs, applicants must have related academic background and are required to submit the portfolio (such as paintings, story scripts, short movies, etc.).
